Botanical Name: Quercus Robur

Commonly known as: European Oak, English Brown Oak, Rovere, Quercia, Chene, Eicke, Eik

English Oak trees are native to Britain, and are found in woodland and old hedgerows all over Britain.

The English Oak is a massive tree and can grow up to 40 metres in height.

Oak Rocking Horse Properties

English Oak is fairly even in colour and texture. Most commonly a pale biscuit colour, but this can vary from light brown to dark tan. The wood's texture is coarse and characterized by open pores.

English Oak usually has a more uneven grain and more interesting detail than its American cousin.

English Oak accepts a broad range of finishes making it ideal for our oak rocking horse projects.

Oak Rocking Horses Availability

Oak is not an endangered species and sources of ethical eco friendly supplies are readily available to us for the creation of our oak rocking horses.

Oak Rocking Horses & The Environment

Oak trees provide an important habitat for a diverse range of wildlife species (more than any other European tree).

We therefor go to great lengths to ensure that the wood supply for our oak rocking horses comes from reclaimed sources or Forrests Forever and/or FSC (Forest Stewardsip Council) certified eco-friendly ethical suppliers.

For more details of our ethical policy, please see the quality care and ethics page.
